Turn a tablet into a time clock.
For everyone who doesn’t work at a computer: an ordinary tablet by the entrance, hold a chip to the reader or enter a PIN, confirm arrival or departure — done. The booking becomes that person’s time entry, with “Terminal” as its source. The device itself can do nothing else: no reports, no member list, no settings.
Simple at the device. Strict behind it.
Booking takes two seconds. Abusing the device is hard.
Any tablet, any browser
No special hardware: a tablet or a retired laptop will do, running fullscreen as its own “iXTime Time Clock” app. A USB chip reader is optional — the PIN always works.
Chip or PIN
Every member gets a six-digit PIN from the system, plus a chip if you like. After identification the person sees only their own status and confirms arrival or departure.
Set up with a one-time code
An admin creates the terminal and receives a setup code that works exactly once. Whoever mounts the tablet enters it on the device — nobody with admin rights has to stand next to it.
Copies stand out
The device receives a new secret with every booking; a copy carrying on with an old one is rejected and logged. After several wrong PINs, entry pauses, a little longer each time — and nobody can read a PIN, not even an admin.
Forgotten clock-out
If an entry has run implausibly long, the terminal asks at the next booking. It is marked invalid only after the person confirms — no end time is made up.
Capture by role
The role decides whether someone books at the time clock, records working time in the app or both — and which absences they enter themselves. The front office clocks in at the wall, the field team in the app; exceptions get a custom role.
How it works
Create a terminal
Switch on “Use time clock” in the settings and add a terminal under Terminals — iXTime shows the setup code.
Set up the device
Open the terminal address on the tablet, enter the code and add it to the home screen. From now on the device is a time clock.
Issue a PIN or chip
On the member’s page, under “Terminal identification”, issue a PIN or assign a chip. The PIN is shown only at that moment.
Frequently asked
What hardware do I need?
A tablet or computer with a current browser and an internet connection. For chips, a USB reader that behaves like a keyboard — which is how most common RFID readers work. Without a reader, the PIN works.
What happens without internet?
Then the terminal does not book and says so: “No connection” — the booking is not caught up later. Whoever just tried to clock in sees right away that it didn’t work.
Can colleagues see at the terminal who is in?
No. After identification the terminal shows only the person themselves their status — first name, direction, time. There is no attendance list, neither on the device nor anywhere else.
Are fingerprints or locations recorded?
No. Identification is by chip or PIN — no fingerprints, no photos, no location. That keeps the time clock data-lean.
Can someone clock in for a colleague?
A chip can be handed over, a PIN passed on. So iXTime classifies rather than proves: every entry carries its source including the device, and every later correction is in the change history.
What if a tablet is replaced?
Issue a new setup code for the terminal and enter it on the new device. A lost device can be revoked — then it can no longer book.
Does the time clock cost extra?
No. Terminals, chips and PINs are included in every plan — there are no separate seats for terminal users.
