Hierarchy levels & custom labels
You decide how many levels your structure has (1 to 3), what they are called and whether they are required. You find these settings in the workspace settings under “Custom labels”.
Step by step
- 01
1 to 3 levels
By default there are three levels: customer → project → task. You can configure 1, 2 or 3 active levels. Deactivated levels are hidden, but their data is not deleted.
- 02
Default or customized
For each level choose “Default” (uses the preset) or “Customized”. With “Customized” you enter a singular and a plural form, e.g. “Client”.
- 03
Plural is required
For customized labels the plural form must be filled in, otherwise saving is blocked. Switching back to “Default” clears both fields.
- 04
Required flags & cascade
With “Must be specified” you make a level mandatory. A cascade applies: level 2 can only be enabled once level 1 is required; if you remove a level’s requirement, the levels below are automatically deactivated.
- 05
Live preview
As you type, a preview shows immediately how your labels look in the sidebar.
- 06
Renaming is safe
Existing time entries reference the node ID, not the name. Renaming does not change the entries.
Do I have to use all three levels?
No. You can configure 1, 2 or 3 active levels — whatever fits your organisation.
What happens to level 3 if I reduce to 2 levels?
The level-3 nodes stay in the database but are no longer returned in active hierarchy queries.
